I've kinda completely forgot about this blog for too long... Very sad. I ended up posting because I decided today that I need to start becoming more actively involved in Twitter. It's something I'm going to have to do for the rest of my life and I need to start facing that fact. It's just not a medium I personally enjoy, though I can certainly understand - and actively argue for - it's place in our world today. I'm hoping that forcing myself into doing it will get me more interested. We'll see.
While updating my Twitter, I realized I had the link to this blog in my profile... Yikes. DIdn't realize all these forgotten Will Sanderson web elements were interconnected. My Twitter has three random posts on it: 1- a Broken Bells quote, 2-Willy Wonka quote, and 3-myself complaining about being inside last April. I need to work on the quality tweets. Regardless, I did enjoy this blog while I was writing it, even if no one reads it. It's a good personal thing to have around to remember random stuff that happens with me.
I guess maybe I'll actually try to write something productive! In terms of the music world, I haven't found anything particularly awesome since I last posted which is kind of sad. I think I'm the only one in the world who enjoys the Arcade Fire album, but doesn't understand why it's so great. Maybe I have to keep listening to it a lot more than I already have. I'm glad Black Keys won at the Grammys but upset Mumford and Sons didn't get the recognition they deserved. I haven't stopped listening to them for a year now. It's one of very few albums I can say that for. The new Sufjan Stevens I have also enjoyed, but not to the extent of some of his other albums. I really liked his orchestral themes that he incorporated on Illinoise and Michigan and this new electronic style is good, but not what I expected from him.
I have found some good music on the rap front. Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover of NBC's Community and "Bro Rape" fame) recently released some great music. I didn't know if it would be a joke or not, and frankly I'm still not sure, but Freaks and Geeks has hysterical lyrics and great production. Another producer I've been listening to recently is Brenton Duvall. Turns out he's some sort of fratboy at Tufts, but his remix/mashups are great. I first found him when he did a Notorious BIG and Gary Jules (song from Donnie Darko) mashup. It was great and now he just did a remix with Childish Gambino that is great. Also, Mac Miller was introduced to me by a guy I work with at Forbes. He just was signed onto the same label as Wiz Khalifa (not too shabby) and he's 19 years old... He's doing pretty well for himself.
Books I've read recently -- school oriented ones! Being back in classes and taking a full courseload hinders my pleasure reading. Luckily, the last book assigned for class was Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. It was a great book, but I'm still partial to The Road... That book had such a profound impact on me that I don't think any of McCarthy's other novels could compare to. I've now moved onto Nathanael West's The Day of the Locust. So far, it's been an interesting analysis of the Hollywood culture and the climate surrounding life out West (a place I've sadly never been able to make it to). I read West's Miss Lonelyhearts a few years back and really enjoyed it, so I'm definitely enjoying revisiting this classic author.
Other than that, work has completely taken over my life. Even as I post now, I'm uploading videos to YouTube and simultaneously exporting future videos out of Final Cut... It never stops! But, it has been great and luckily I do work that I like doing. I can't wait for spring break though; it will be well deserved once I'm sitting on the beach in Dominican Republic!
Turns out I had slightly more to say than I thought. And I'm sure I could go on forever. But I will cut it off there. oh! Except, I'm probably going to switch over to tumblr soon. Sorry blogger; I think tumblr and I are a better fit for each other.
